Performance

  • Size: 12 inches
  • Top-mount depth: 6 3/4″
  • Sensitivity: 85 db
  • RMS: 800 watts
  • Peak: 1600 watts

This subwoofer features a 12-inch dual voice coil. You are able to choose an impedance of 2- or 8-Ohms. Featuring a funky and cool design, these are the perfect addition to your auto stereo system.

The paper cone has been reinforced with Kevlar fibers, as is the case with most of Rockford Fosgate’s models, but this also has an aluminum surround with a rubber dust cap to keep the cone free of dust and dirt.

The basket is made of cast aluminum, and you receive the metal grille as well.

The power handling in this model is what makes it so special. With an RMS of 800 watts and a peak power of 1600 watts, this is a real contender when it comes to cranking up the volume super loud.

This model features a new and improved FlexFit basket that is easy to install under even the most trying conditions.

Features

The clean lines of this model already set it apart from its competitors and give you an idea of the quality of the sound. The sound produced is crisp and clear and a lot louder than you might expect.

While there are models out there with higher power handling capabilities, this option can outperform a lot of them simply because the useful surface of the cone is a lot larger than is the case with others. This is thanks to the VAST technology that the company uses when attaching the rubber.

Aside from that, the voice coil is a lot more durable than is the case with other models. This model is also a lot more efficient when it comes to heat dissipation than some of its closest competitors.

Price-wise, it does cost a little more. There are certainly cheaper options out there, but none of them can hold a candle to the performance you will enjoy from this unit.

 Drawbacks

The cost is something that could be a little off-putting. If you just want a basic system that can handle a fair amount of bass, this could very well be overkill. The price puts it more in the category for the serious enthusiast than the entry-level model.

That said, you do get what you pay for – the problem with those really inexpensive systems is that if your amp pushes too much voltage through, they won’t last long at all. These speakers can handle more voltage and so will last a lot longer.

The sound produced is also a lot crisper and clearer. And LOUD.

Final Verdict

These show that you have gotten serious about the sound system in your car. If you are a serious audiophile, the higher initial cost will be more than worth it in the long run. These speakers sound better, perform better and are able to stand up to a lot more abuse.

Looking at them that way, they really are not all that expensive at all.

They are not your average subwoofers, and so they aren’t going to be the best buy for your average soccer mom, but then, do your folks like to crank their music up loud?
