Rockford Fosgate P3 2×12 Review

If performance and convenience are what you are after, then the Rockford Fosgate P3 2×12 is something that you will want to consider seriously.

This model is a little higher in price, but it packs quite a wallop and looks extremely good at the same time. Ready to learn more about it?

Performance

  • Size: 12-inch subwoofers
  • RMS: 1200 watts
  • Peak: 2400 watts

If you are looking for the quickest and easiest way to amp up your bass, this punch-loaded enclosure will give you a head start. Using the same punch speakers that Fosgate sells separately, this is a powerful box to keep you rocking.

The enclosure is carefully tuned by computer software built for the purpose.

The box is constructed out of MDF that is 5/8 inches thick and so is sturdy. This, in turn, is covered in a high-density carpet.  The enclosure is vented to help prevent the build-up of heat within it. This gives you the best balance between sound output and damping.

The enclosed speakers work similarly to the P1 and P2 options in terms of tonal range but are capable of handling a lot more power.

The compression terminals feature a quick release option and are up to 10 AWG.

The binding posts are able to handle high levels of current.

The maximum load is 1 Ohm in total.

Features

Rockford Fosgate P3 2x12 angled

This model is a different from similar offerings on the market mainly because of the Fossgate proprietary low-noise, high-flow port. The sound produced is brilliant, with no static or stuttering.

The subwoofers themselves are made using Vast tech, another of Fosgate’s innovations. This means that each cone has round about 25% more usable area. This is one of the things that really sets this manufacturer apart, and boy does it make a big difference to the sound.

The sound comes out a lot more clearly and a lot louder as well. So, if you have that one neighbor that thinks its fun to play drum solos into the night, this set-up will at the very least drown them out.

The setup is designed to help draw harmful heat away from the sensitive areas of the subwoofers. To start off with, the vented design of the enclosure gives it a way to escape. Secondly, the voice coil is designed to draw heat and help it to dissipate.

Drawbacks

The drawback here is the price – this is not for someone who is sticking to a very tight budget. On the other hand, though, this is a quality product, and the clear sound output and reliability of this model is nothing to be sneezed at. The convenience of having it already enclosed is another big plus.

If all you have is bass on the brain, this is the perfect tool to enjoy it with. Just be prepared to whip out the credit card and fork over the cash. If it is a little too rich for your blood at the moment, it would be worth considering saving for a bit so that you can get it later.

Final Verdict

Overall, when you consider what you are getting, this is a pretty good deal. It is not going to suit everyone’s budget, though. This is a more high-end option for someone who wants the convenience of plugging everything in and going.

If you love fully customizing everything from scratch, or if you have a really tight budget, this is not the option for you. If, on the other hand, you appreciate performance and convenience, it doesn’t come much better then having it all contained in one well-designed and executed enclosure.
