Rockford Fosgate P2 8 Review

Rockford Fosgate P2 8 Review

If you are looking for a great set of subs at a really fantastic price, the Rockford Fosgate P2 8 is the right place to start.

These are designed with one thing in mind – getting the base as clear as possible.

They are not the highest wattage subwoofers out there, but thanks to their design, they sound as though they are a lot bigger than they are in reality.

Performance

  • Size: 8 inches
  • RMS: 250 watts
  • Peak: 500 watts

This Rockford Fosgate set consists of two subwoofers that will really help you to punch up the bass. As with all models, Vast tech has been used, and the cone is made of paper that has Kevlar fibers infused into it. This makes for a more durable product and better sound quality.

The 10-gauge push terminals have been plated with nickel to ensure that are more durable. The tinsel leads are 16-gauge and are embedded in the liner spider. They are built to withstand a lot of use and reduce fatigue in the system overall.

The voice coil is made from anodized aluminum for increased durability and to help manage heat build-up within the system.

The subs have been engineered to the meet the latest CEA 2031 industry standards, so you can be assured that you are getting the very best.

The subs are designed to handle a constant stream of power and provide lossless music.

What really sets these subs apart is the Vast technology used during the bonding process of the cone to the rubber. In the past, it was not possible to bond the two successfully without sacrificing some of the surface area of the cone.

With Vast tech, this changed and this gives these speakers the maximum advantage. With around a quarter more of the cone that is able to be used, these eight-inch speakers put out the kind of sound you would expect from a twelve-inch version.

The voice coil tech is another thing that sets Rockford Fosgate apart. Whereas many of their competitors make use of plastic in this area, Rockford Fosgate decided to be a little more creative and give the voice coil a dual purpose.

It is made from aluminum to help draw heat from the surrounding system and dissipate it. This, in turn, means that you get to listen to your favorite tunes for that much longer without worrying that your subs will overheat.

Drawbacks

The drawback here is when it comes to constructing a sealed box for the subs. If you go by the instructions provided, the box is a little too small. Instead, build the box a little bigger at 0.5 cubic feet to get the best possible sound.

It is not such a big deal in the grand scheme of things and is an issue that is very easy to rectify – just make the box a little bigger than what the schematics recommend.

You also do have to make sure not to overload the speakers when using your amps – they are not engineered for extremely high voltage. That said, as long as you are careful, they will last you very well.

Final Verdict

This is a great set for beginners or those who would just like a decent sound system in their car. The size of the speakers makes them perfect for smaller vehicles. You do have to be more careful when it comes to the number of amps that you put through, but isn’t that normally the case anyway?

All in all, though, these subwoofers are a great deal and offer excellent value for money. If you are looking for something more powerful, be sure to check out our Top 10 Fosgate Subs Choices for 2018.
